The rebel is ready to roll

If we’ve not heard too much from Zayed Khan this year, there’s a reason for the silence. The young Khan has been hit by injuries that have kept him out of action for quite some time.

First he suffered a slipped disc in February this year, while doing an action sequence for Vikram Bhatt’s Speed. Both Khan and the film hit a speedbreaker when that happened.

The star had to take a forced holiday in bed for 40 days and the film’s schedules were hit because, soon after, Zayed was committed to a long schedule for the Rock Star series of concerts in the US, UK and Dubai, from the end of April to the first week of June. It really doesn’t get any bigger than this. Bringing the cult figures of the small screen and those aspiring to become larger than life on the silver screen is a music video and album with a purpose - to spread public awareness about AIDS.

Literally about lending a hand to support a cause, the song “Haath Se Haath Milaa” has been written by Javed Akhtar, composed by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy and sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. Shot on celluloid, the track, which features over 40 film stars and 10 top television stars, is quite a feat in terms of just numbers.

“The whole idea about `Haath Se Haath Milaa’ was to create an inspiring song and video that would make it cool and fashionable to talk about HIV/AIDS, as it is only through frank and open discussion that we can raise awareness,” says Anu Malhotra, Creative Head of “Haath Se Haath Milaa”, who has conceived and directed this music video and designed the television series.

Will Zayed Rock as Rocky?

Rocky once more. You’ve marveled at Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky series. The buzz is that he is planning ‘Rocky VI’ sometime soon. Never mind Hollywood, apna Bollywood has had its share of Sanju Baba’s debut style flick ‘Rocky’ as well. Now, stylish Zayed Khan is trying to go on that trip too with his solo-after-a-long-gap movie titled ‘Rocky’.

Co-starring angelic Minisha Lamba (She met with a raw deal in ‘Corporate’), Rocky’s music by Himesh Reshammiya is creating waves. ‘Junoon’ and ‘It’s Not a One Night Stand’ have been picturised well and are earning quite-a-few eye balls on telly-world these days. But if you compare Himesh’s score with RD Burman’s classic ‘Aa Dekhen Zara Kisme Kitna Hai Dum’ then it completely pales in comparison.

Talking about Zayed, well this good looking Khan hasn’t had a solo hit so far. Whatever little success or critical acclaim that he has earned are multi starrers like ‘Main Hoon Na’ (Shahrukh), ‘Dus’ (Sanjay, Abhishek and Sunil), ‘Shabd’ (Sanjay Dutt) and ‘Shaadi No.1’ (Fardeen and Sharman).

I nstead of Rocky-The Rebel, the title Himesh-The Recycler could work just as well. After all, not only has the composer come up with the soundtrack, he has practically sung all the tracks.

Rocky is produced by the duo of Narendra and Shyam Bajaj, who gave us the whodunit Aksar. The score for the latter was also composed by Reshammiya. Starring Zayed Khan, Minnisha Lamba and Isha Sharvani, the music of Rocky is exactly what you expect it to be — repetitive.

It opens rather decently as Reshammiya and Amrita Kak (of Just Chill fame) play the field in the racy Junoon. A sure-shot chartbuster, it infects with its youthful verve. If only the subsequent tracks were as entertaining.
